Last weekend I attended one of the best foodie events, Swan and Dolphin Food & Wine Classic at the Walt Disney World Resort. I look forward to this event every year! You can stroll casually around the causeway taking in all Classic has to offer. It has so many intricate, beautiful signature dishes prepared by the Chefs from all of their resort restaurants and Celebrity/Executive Chefs: Todd English, Robert Ciborowski and Laurent Branlard. Blue Zoo, Shula’s, Kimonos, Garden Grove, Cabana, The Fountain, and Il Mulino are represented in the most exquisite way and the wines pairings to compliment them. Menus consisted of these categories: beef and more, pasta, fish and seafood, sushi, vegetarian, and pastry and desserts. Some of my favorite dishes of the night were the Flight of the Halibut, Shrimp Cocktail Steamroller, Black Pepper Campanelle, Sushi and Raspberry Panna Cotta.
New to this year’s event is the Beer Garden. A tree-shaded Crescent Terrance with tables all set up to taste beer of local and seasonal favorites. At night this garden was lit up with beautiful lights and offered house-made bars snacks of soft pretzels, handcrafted German style sausages, braised cabbage, laugen bread, schnitzel and German potato salad that was prepared by the Chefs to pair with their picks. Delirium, Anchor, Shipyard and Florida Brewing were some of the brewery beers we tried. I loved this new addition since I am huge fan of craft beers. I really hope they bring this feature back again next year.
There were also ten seminars educating you on wines, cocktails and beer. Seminars begin at 4:30pm and last approximately one hour. We attended the Base to Bubbles Seminar all about Champagne. Our instructor Oliver Zambaux is a Certified Sommelier and the Assistant Director of Banquets at the resort. I learned so much in this class on the three different wines it takes to make the champagne and all the history of how it was created. It was so interesting and had some lovely accompaniments of cheese and French dessert. I highly recommend one of these seminars. Where else can you have access to someone teaching you great insights on food, wine, cocktails and beer and be able to ask them any questions you want to know.
Live entertainment was rocking throughout the night as well as evening fireworks. It has some of the best dishes and varieties of wine and beer than any of the fall events out there. I LOVE Swan and Dolphin Food and Wine Classic. I can’t emphasize that enough. It is a must attend to anyone who enjoys fabulous food and wine events. It will be returning next year for it’s sixth annual. Hope to see you there! Cheers!
