Cottage Pie – Rose & Crown
1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
1/4 cup butter
1 cup diced onion
1 cup chopped carrots
½ cup sliced mushrooms
1 cup brown gravy
2 cups mashed potatoes
1/4 teaspoon ground savory
Salt and ground pepper to taste
¼ cup Cheddar Cheese for topping
1. Heat 1/4 cup butter in a skillet. Add in the onion, carrots and mushrooms and cook until lightly browned, stirring occasionally.
2. Add the beef, salt, pepper and savory and continue cooking for 5 additional minutes. Stir in the gravy and heat until it starts bubbling.
3. Place mixture into a buttered baking dish. Distribute mashed potatoes on top. Dot with the remainder of the butter and add the cheddar cheese.
4. Bake at 400°F for 15 to 20 minutes or until potatoes are lightly browned.
